In My Work Hard, Play Harder Era
So, apparently, graduate school is like, a lot of work. I love it!! But it is A LOT. Every month, I have to turn in thirty pages of writing and I have twelve books to read over the course of the semester. I just turned in my first packet of thirty pages on Friday and the whole experience brought me back to undergrad/med school—cramming for a week and then letting my hair down after it’s all over. It feels so good. Like you’ve actually accomplished something and deserve that espresso martini. I feel productive again and it’s a great feeling—like there’s some rhythm to my life again.
But I definitely had another reason to celebrate this weekend—KAMALA!! I’m so proud and excited and hopeful and curious and all the feels. There are, of course, things about her that I don’t agree with but I think she is the person we need right now—a refreshing change from the old white men who’ve dominated our political landscape since the dawn of time. It’s been so fulfilling and encouraging to see people of all ages and backgrounds getting so hype for her. My favorite group to come out of this excitement is of course, Swifties for Harris! The memes are enough to make me a loyal follower.
Okay, I have another gigantic packet of writing due in a few weeks again so it’s already past time to stop playing and get back to work. The cycle doesn’t end but that’s exactly what I signed up for!
